Brain Storm 2026 is a 2-day, in-person hackathon where students and post-docs from across Boston and Cambridge's top universities come together to design and prototype new tools in brain–computer interfaces (BCI), AI, signal processing, hardware, healthcare innovation, and more. Whether you’re into neuroscience, machine learning, UX, robotics, or just like building cool things, this event gives you access to real neural data, expert mentors, and a chance at $5,000 in prizes.
When:
Brain Storm BCI Hackathon 2026 will take place in-person on January 23rd & 24th, 2026 at the Microsoft New England Research and Development (NERD) Center, 1 Memorial Dr, Cambridge, MA 02142.
Getting There:
For public transportation, the closest station is the Kendall/MIT stop on the Red Line. There is also onsite parking available (Friday: $37, Saturday $10).
Attendance:
The 2026 Hackathon has reached full capacity, so only those who have received confirmed attendance notifications will be admitted to the event due to capacity limits at the NERD center. Please check back here for info on our 2027 Brain Storm BCI Hackathon!

10:30 AM – Team formation + Ideation kickoff
12:00 PM – Lunch + 1st breakout session
1:00 PM – 1:45 PM – Keynote address from Leigh Hochberg
1:45 PM – 9:00 PM – Hacking session
6:30 PM – Dinner + Networking session
Day 2 – Saturday, Jan 24, 2026
9:00 AM – Hacking resumes
12:00 PM – Lunch + Kurt Lehner from Johns Hopkins - Breakout session
3:00 PM – Project submissions due
3:30 PM – Demo presentations and + Judging
4:00 PM – Awards ceremony
